Sunshine Act
The Pennsylvania Sunshine Act, 65 Pa.C.S. §§ 701-716, requires governmental agencies to deliberate and take official action on agency business in an open and public meeting. It requires that meetings have prior notice, and that the public can attend, participate, and comment before an agency takes official action. The Sunshine Act applies to all local government bodies and any sub-groups appointed by those bodies that perform an essential government function and exercise authority to take official action. This can include boards, councils, authorities, commissions, and committees.
In Bear Creek Village, the Borough Council, Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board are subject to the requirements of the Sunshine Act.
