Historic District

Bear Creek Village has a rich and varied history going back to the late 1700s, and has evolved through various phases including lumber company town, ice industry center, summer resort for wealthy Wilkes Barre and out-of-state residents, and year-round family homes. Many of the structures in the Village are reminiscent of the architecture of earlier times. In recognition of this, in the late 1990's the Bear Creek Village Historical Society, applied for status as a historic district. The Bear Creek Village Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The report that was prepared to request historical district status includes a very detailed and interesting history of Bear Creek Village. Click HERE to read portions of that report.
